Trace Route Information
This box shows routers 11 to 20 in the route from out servers to the IP above.
We limit the query to a maximum of 20 hops so that this page doesn't take too long
to display.
A trace route is created by sending an ICMP ping request to the destination IP but
limiting the number of hops by setting the "time to live" or TTL value. TTL value
will be decremented by 1 each time the packet moves along the chain of routers.
If the ICMP packet does not reach the destination within the number of hops set
in the TTL then the final server in the chain will send back TTL Expired response
along with its IP.
By sending a successive set of packets and increasing the TTL by 1 for each packet
you can identify all routers or servers along the chain.
